Rogers' Road Trip: Farewell Virginia

The last full day in Virginia we woke up to go fishing!  Of course we were using about a 2" hook for 5" fish.. no wonder they weren't biting!  In our defense we borrowed the fishing rods which were all set up.. and it was all for the kids since we weren't supposed to "touch" the rods since we decided not to purchase a license.  Caden had fun casting and Cole kept thinking he caught a fish since there was a long wormy looking lure on the end!  Thankfully the dock had a covered portion because it was super hot out, even the kids ran out of steam when they'd go onto the sunny portion.

I just sat in the shade staying less hot and taking pictures

When we got back we had lunch and Cole and Cora went down for naps.  We took to opportunity to explore the stream with Caden.  Once the other two were up Joseph, Mary Jane's 8 year old neighbor came over to really show us the way of the water..He was so nimble jumping from rock to rock while we were all teetering on the edge of falling into the water.  He also showed us how to catch "crawdads" which I believe are what we know as crayfish.  The boys ventured down the river while Cora and I stayed put and threw rocks and splashed about.

Joseph also knew where the swimming hole portion of the stream was where he and Caden splashed about for the rest of the afternoon.  We were only able to get them out by tempting them with s'mores after they ate their dinner!

Mary Jane is an excellent hostess, she had set up all these activities to do before we arrived.  For our last meal she had a few friends over with their kids or grandkids for stream playing fun, they then roasted hot dogs on the fire and had watermelon and s'mores for dessert!  A highlight of the trip for the kids I am sure!  We adults didn't have hotdogs, we got to have a special grown up meal after the kids went to bed... perfectly grilled (thank you Rob!) ribeyesMmm. they were delicious.

Before we left we went down to bid farewell to the stream and ran in the fields.. then posed for a few pictures to help remember our trip with.

The second leg of our trip came to a close.  Thanks Mary Jane for a wonderful stay!

Up Next: Quogue... beach, beach and more beach!
