Gone Fishin'

This past Sunday was the annual Kids Fishing Derby at the local Fish and Game Club... this was our first time going.. it was gloomy morning, but we got up, got ready and headed out to dig worms! Normally when we are digging around we come up with gazillions of worms.. of course this morning when we actually needed worms there were hardly any to be found.. and those that we did find were tiny little things.

So we headed off for the derby.. Cars and Toy Story fishing rods in hand!

As you can imagine Caden was the only one of the three kids really interested in the whole event. Caden and Cora were VERY excited to find that we had packed lots of snacks! This was very helpful in keeping Cora out of the pond!

It sprinkled a little bit.. but by the end of it the sun had started peeking through and it got HOT!

Looks like she's reeling in a big one.. but I'll be honest we didn't catch a thing.. we had a few nibbles on the worms, but no bites. We got there about 45 minutes after the official start time.. apparently they were pulling them out left and right in the beginning but they told us they stopped biting just before we got there... figures right?! but look at the opposite bank! Packed side by side, that is how it looked around the entire pond, there were lines EVERYWHERE! you had to use strategy in order to cast out without crossing any lines!

We may not have caught any fish.. but we had a good time at least.. we'll try again next year but we'll make sure we get there right at the start so we have a fighting chance! Oh and we might need to brush up on our fishing techniques too!
